Third fatality from Hurricane Ophelia reported in Dundalk

Carl Kinsella

The death toll from Hurricane Ophelia is now three people, after a man was reportedly killed in his car in Dundalk.

It is believed that the incident occurred after a tree was blown onto the car. Emergency services were called to the scene in Ravensdale. The R132 is now closed. No details about the victim have been made public.

The news has been reported by the Dundalk Democrat.

The death is the third to result from Hurricane Ophelia. The first occurred when a branch fell on a car in Waterford. The second involved a chainsaw accident in Tipperary as a man in his 30s attempted to clear a fallen tree.

Gardaí recommend that people avoid all non-essential journeys and stay clear of power lines or trees that have been downed by the storm. People are also emphatically warned against venturing anyway near coastal areas or waterways.
