Kerry pub is giving away free dinners to anyone that’s homeless, elderly or in need over Christmas

Paul Moore

A wonderful act of compassion.

Christmas is just under a week away, and while it’s easy to focus on the commercial aspect of the holiday season, there have already been some wonderful examples of people showing their compassion, decency and kindness.

For example, two restaurants in Co Offaly are offering free dinners to the homeless on Christmas Day. The BakeHouse Cafe and Restaurant and Cafe India, both in Tullamore, have decided to open their doors to feed the homeless or those who are in need on December 25th.

In a similar humanitarian fashion, Connie K’s Bar & Restaurant in Rathmore, Kerry are also offering free food from December 23-25 to anyone that might be homeless, elderly or struggling to make ends meet.

In a post to their Facebook page, the pub said that they wanted to do something to help those in need because they “recently spoke to a lady only a few steps away from my front door. After a brief and emotional chat, she was very upset. I was shocked to learn of the struggle she and her family faced on a daily basis in our locality. To provide even the most basic things like food & clothing, she seemed to be dreading the thought of Christmas. We read and hear about these things every day but sometimes we don’t realise how close to home people are affected.”

It goes without saying that this is a wonderful gesture and one that deserves to be rightfully praised and shared.

Here’s hoping that this spirit of compassion, love and decency continues to spread around Ireland.

Fair play to all of those involved at  Connie K’s Bar & Restaurant.
