Looking for a new start?

If you are, or if you’re thinking of following a different career path, you might be interested in heading along to the Autumn Jobs Expo in Cork taking place this Saturday, November 25.

A host of national and international companies will be present at the event, including representatives from the governments of two major Canadian provinces following news that 10,700 new work permits were made available for young Irish citizens earlier this month.

Closer to home, recruiters from An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service will be present at the event – there are plans to recruit 800 new Gardaí and 500 civilians in 2018 – as will the likes of Laya Healthcare, PhoneWatch, Abtran, PE Global, the Isle of Man Government and more.

Up to 30 leading employers, educators and professional development experts are taking part at the Expo, which will be held in UCC’s Devere Hall, Aras na Mac Leinn.

The event, which runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, will feature 30 employers and exhibitors, talks, seminars and career advice, all of which will be free of charge for those who register on jobsexpo.ie.

The event will be divided into five separate zones to make it easier for attendants to find the companies and jobs that interest them the most. The dedicated areas include:

  • The Jobs Lab – medtech and STEM jobs
  • The Digital City – opportunities for computer and IT specialists
  • The Mall – jobs in sales, retail and related areas
  • Go Global – career opportunities overseas
  • The Campus – education, training and upskilling opportunities

Commenting on the event, Jobs Expo’s Bronagh Cotter said: “Cork attracts a multitude of big name multinationals and Irish companies. In fact, the Cork-Kerry region has the lowest unemployment rate in the country, meaning there is healthy competition and demand for skilled candidates in the city and county.

“This Saturday’s Jobs Expo will have a great mix of local and international companies eager to meet skilled professionals. Our exhibitors are literally A to Z, with companies as diverse as AbbVie and Zevas as well as new public service jobs with An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service both taking part.”

Jobseekers can register for free admission by visiting www.jobsexpo.ie.
