Three calves killed after cattle trailer overturns on motorway in Dublin

The trailer became disconnected from its vehicle in the early hours of Friday morning.

Three calves died as a result of a cattle trailer becoming disconnected from the vehicle carrying it on the M1 motorway in Dublin on Friday morning.

Gardaí received reports of a single vehicle incident that occurred on the M1 near Junction 6 Balbriggan at approximately 3.10am on Friday (22 May).

The vehicle was towing a trailer containing a number of livestock when the trailer became disconnected from the vehicle.

The driver, a man in his late teens, was uninjured.

Gardaí said that, at this stage, three calves have died as a result of the incident.

An examination was carried out at the scene and the road has since reopened.
