Three Gardaí were treated in hospital in Donegal after their parked patrol car was struck by a car on Ramelton Road, Letterkenny.

The incident occurred at around 3.30am on Saturday morning.

A 17-year-old man driving the car was arrested at the scene under the Road Traffic Acts and taken to Letterkenny Garda Station.

The man was later released without charge while the Gardaí were treated for minor injuries at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.

Extra Gardaí are on duty in Donegal this weekend as the Donegal International Rally takes place with thousands of people expected to descend on the county over the course of the weekend.
