Met Éireann issues thunderstorm warning for 11 counties

A thunderstorm warning has been issued for 11 counties, with significant downpours and the potential for flooding on the horizon.
Issued by Met Éireann on Thursday morning (23 June), the warning concerns all of Munster and Connacht, thus Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo are affected.
Per the national broadcaster, heavy showers or longer spells of rain with thundery downpours in some places may lead to spot flooding.
The warning is valid from 6pm on Friday 24 June and will remain in place until Saturday at 6pm.
On the general weather front, Thursday will see a good deal of cloud about the place before a few bright and sunny periods develop throughout the afternoon, with the best of the sunshine located in the southeast.
Met Éireann is also forecasting a little patchy light rain or drizzle in the west and northwest, with isolated showers possible elsewhere in the country. Highest temperatures will range between 16 and 23 degrees, warmest in Leinster.
Thursday night, meanwhile, will be mostly cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle, turning more persistent in the west and southwest later in the night. Expect a mild night with lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.
Friday morning will start off cloudy, with rain in the west and southwest that will eventually move northwards across the rest of the country through the afternoon and evening, followed by scattered showers.
In line with the aforementioned warning, there will be heavy and possibly thundery outbreaks at times. Highest afternoon temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees are anticipated.
Friday night should bring clear spells and scattered showers before heavy rain takes over, moving southwest overnight. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.
