Stay safe.

It has been a well and truly miserable week on the weather front.

If you thought it might improve somewhat, we regret to inform you that you’re sorely mistaken.

Twelve counties have been issued a Status Yellow Thunderstorm Warning, which is valid from 4.08pm on Thursday (8 September) until 9pm.

The twelve counties facing the poor weather include Cavan,CorkDonegal, Galway, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, and Westmeath.

“Local thunderstorms and lightning strikes giving poor driving conditions,” are predicted, according to Met Éireann.

A weather advisory is still in place since last week until 7pm this evening, with the country experiencing unsettled weather for much of this week, with spells of heavy rain or showers possibly causing further disruption.

Thankfully, the weather is set to dry up somewhat on Friday and Saturday, with Met Éireann anticipating “a good deal of cloud about for a time tomorrow especially in eastern and midland areas with scattered outbreaks of rain”.

Better sunny spells are anticipated further to the west with some well-scattered showers.

Sunny spells are set to spread more widely across the county later in the day, though with still a few heavy showers locally.

Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees Celsius are expected in a light to moderate northwest breeze.

Saturday (10 September) will be a dry day for most with isolated showers and sunny periods, although Met Éireann says it may turn cloudier in the southwest towards nightfall. Highest temperatures will be between 18 to 21 degrees along with a light to moderate south easterly breeze.

There is still some uncertainty as the likely conditions early next week due to hurricane activity in the North Atlantic.

The rain is set to come back in a major way on Sunday (11 September), which is predicted to be a wet day with widespread heavy rain, along with moderate southerly winds.
