Are the odds in your favour?

Tonight’s Lotto jackpot is expected to reach €10 million so we decided to look at ways to improve your chances of winning. Well, buying a ticket is obviously a good start.

We thought we’d look into the statistics for Lotto winners from 2016 and see if there are any insights that might help. Here comes the science bit.

Who is most likely to win the Lotto?

Well, drivers from Dublin seem to do pretty well. The majority of winners in 2016 came from Dublin, which should feed a few conspiracy theories down the country!

One in four winners were drivers, which suggests that it’s a luckier profession than anyone previously suspected. Seven in 10 winners were male and aged 45 or older.

Right so. We’re off to look up driver’s jobs so we can increase our chances of a decent Lotto win when we hit our forties!

Who do Lotto winners tell?

The obvious answer is “Nobody, obviously.” Apparently, not everyone thinks the same way as we do. Four in 10 people admitted that the first person they told was their other half.

One in five winners also said they slept with the winning ticket under their pillow for safe keeping. It’s not clear whether this was before or after they told their significant other about the win.

What did the winners spend their money on in 2016?

Almost half of winners said they just wanted to share a pint with their loved ones. Although almost half of winners also said they’d go on a Caribbean holiday now that money wasn’t an issue.

Well, they could always have a quick pint in the airport with the family before shooting off for an extended Caribbean break!

So there you have it. We’re not sure that those insights are much help but don’t forget to get a ticket if you do want to be in with a shout of €10 million.

Tonight’s Lotto Jackpot is €10 Million. Play today before the draw takes place at 7.45PM this evening #TimeToPlay
