Travel green list will not be published today

It looks like it will be delayed.

The green list for travel to other countries is unlikely to be published today, as the Cabinet meeting to sign off on the measure has been deferred.

It almost certainly means the list will not be published on Monday, as was initially said.

However, with Taoiseach Micheál Martin currently attending negotiations over a coronavirus economic recovery fund in Brussels, the meeting has been delayed with no word at this time when it will now take place.

Speaking last week, Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney said the US would not be on the list and that it was “very unlikely” the UK would be on the list either.

Speaking on the Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk, Coveney said it was not a political decision but one based on numbers and advice.

“I think it’s very unlikely our closest neighbour either will be under that threshold that we set,” he said.

“That’s really unfortunate, because the two countries we would like to be opening up to in terms of international travel are the UK and US, given the integration between our economy and those two countries.”

It’s expected that rising Covid-19 rates in France, Portugal and Spain will prevent them from making the list as well.

This green list will mean people that travel to those countries for essential reasons will not have to self-isolate for 14 days upon return.
