Trinity College students ordered to leave accommodation over Covid-19 outbreak
Students received an email on Monday evening informing them to leave by 8pm on Tuesday.
Trinity College students have been ordered to leave their respective accommodations following the emergence of new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on the campus.
It is estimated that around 2,400 students will be affected as a result of the order.
"The situation with Covid-19 in Trinity continues to worsen," begins the email sent to students and staff on Monday evening, 16 March.
"We are aware of at least eight cases in Trinity who have tested positive for the virus. Many more students and staff are self-isolating. As the news about Covid-19 changes, we continue to take tough decisions.
"We are writing to you now with one of the most difficult decisions to date. Based on medical advice regarding the health and safety of students must now leave their rooms on campus, in Trinity Hall, the Binary Hub and Kavanagh Court unless they meet specific criteria outlined."
Students have been asked to read the message closely and then "take action".
From 8pm on Tuesday, all students living in Ireland are asked to return home within the country and remain there until notified otherwise. Students from overseas have been told to aim to leave their accommodation by 5pm on Wednesday.
