The 69-hour ordeal is over. For now.
Following nearly three days of government shutdown, President Trump has signed off on a deal to reinstate the operations of the American government.
Pretty much exactly on the one-year anniversary of his election, the American government reached an impasse over a short term funding bill and the deportation of young immigrants in the country (read the entire breakdown here).
However, late on Monday night, Trump followed the steps taken by the senate to sign off on the funding bill.
That is the good news.
The bad news is that the bill only stands until Thursday 8 February, so there is a very good chance that the government will slide right back into shutdown in a little over two weeks from now.
Trump has signed the bill funding the federal government, ending a days-long partisan standoff and restoring stability to the nation.*

Many politicians are still very much not in favour of the current temporary deal, as it still provides no protection for the young immigrants (known as the DREAMers), as well as not providing any long term funding for the American military.
We should expect the back and forth to continue within the parties right up to Feb 8.
