Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Germany and Angela Merkel’s government

He’s at it again…

US President Donald Trump has launched another attack on one of America’s allies, this time, Germany is his target as he tweeted “the people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition.”

Trump has rejected criticism that his “zero-tolerance” immigration policy has caused family separations at the US border, and instead pointed to crime in Germany as the reason tough laws are necessary.

It’s the first time Trump has openly criticised Germany’s immigration policy since he took office last year, although he was previously critical of their immigration policy during the presidential campaign when he called Angela Merkel’s decision to leave the country’s borders open to Syrian refugees as “insane”.

He followed it up with a tweet saying: “We don’t want what is happening with immigration in Europe to happen with us!”

In an interesting fact, recent data released by German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, the man who is actually the leader of the immigration-skeptical members of Merkel’s cabinet, shows that crime in Germany has fallen to it’s lowest rate since 1992.

The tweets come as Merkel is in a stand-off with her interior minister over new immigration curbs. She has bought herself some time but has two-week deadline to find a European solution or face the dissolution of the coalition government.
