Trump gave an anti-abortion speech and managed to completely mess it up

Donald Trump wouldn't be one to care much about women.

Since his announcement that he would be running for president what seems like literal decades ago, the businessman and Apprentice star has been caught making derogatory comments, promised to defund Planned Parenthood, and told another man that you can grab women "by the p*ssy." It's probably no surprise then that Trump decided to become the first United States president to address the country's annual March for Life. However, instead of saying that he thought it was "wrong" for people to have late-term abortions, Trump said this: "Right now, in a number of states, the laws allow a baby to be born from his or her mother’s womb in the ninth month. "It is wrong. It has to change." Right, so. Trump's anti-abortion speech was broadcast to the rally from the Rose Garden. The event marked the 45th anniversary of Roe V Wade - the legislation in the US that made elective abortions legal. We can go ahead and assume that what the president meant to say was that the laws allow for a baby to be "torn" from his or her mother's womb in the ninth month. In countries where abortion is legal, the vast majority of procedures occur before 12 weeks. In 2012 in England and Wales, just 2 percent of terminations were carried out after 20 weeks gestation. Similarly, research from the Guttmacher Institute has shown that the majority of late-term abortions are carried out when there is a substantial risk to the life of the mother or due to other health complications such as birth defects. This is most likely what Trump was trying to say when he referred to babies being "born" at nine months. Still though, even if he had managed to get the right words out, they still wouldn't have been correct.
