Fire at Trump Tower leaves one dead and four firefighters injured

Rory Cashin

It is the second fire to happen at the building in 2018 alone.

The incident, which took place on Saturday afternoon on local New York time (around 11pm here), resulted in one fatality, and four members of the fire service taken to hospital with injuries.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro gave Fox News a breakdown:

“We found fire on the 50th floor of the building. The apartment was entirely on fire. Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment who is in critical condition.”

That 67-year-old was then taken to hospital, where he passed away.

People on the street took footage of the blaze on 5th Avenue, showing the scale of the blaze:

Trump has since tweeted about the fire, to thank the fire services who helped put it out.

He also complimented the building’s high standards for being the reason why the fire was so confined, however there was a fire in this same building back in January of this year, although there were no injuries during that incident.
