After losing out on the GAA, TV3 have pipped RTÉ to the rights for the World Cup in 2015

TV3 might have lost the rights to show GAA, with Sky Sports and RTÉ now splitting up the Championship between them, but they have hit back by sealing a broadcasting agreement for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

According to The Irish Times, the two deals are inextricably linked, with TV3 using the money that they would have spend on the GAA to outbid their competitors for the the rights to rugby’s biggest tournament.

There is no word as of yet as to whether they will sell the rights to some of the games to Setanta, or if they will cover all the games from the tournament (which is to be expected), but this will still be seen as a huge blow to the national broadcaster.
