The 50 Shades of Grey books have taken the country by storm and Ross O’Carroll Kelly has suggested that Irish readers might be a little confused about the so far non-existent fourth book in the series.
Despite reports that it the series is incredibly poorly-written – we refuse to investigate for ourselves – the 50 Shades of Grey books have garnered as much popularity in Ireland as they have elsewhere, with bedroom exploits in Ireland taking on a far raunchier turn of late as readers have been inspired by the supposedly voracious sexual appetites of the main characters.
Such has been the series’ popularity that there are thousands of Irish readers who have flown through the first three books and are anxious for more, leading the fictitious Ross O’Carroll Kelly to suggest that a certain Stephen Roche book might suddenly become popular again due to its title, which could be interpreted in an entirely different way than is intended.
Of course, the rise in popularity could be because the Tour de France is on at the moment and cycling is as the forefront of sporting interest once again, but anyone who buys it for the reason O’Kelly suggested is likely to be sorely disappointed.
