The 28 October will mark the fifth anniversary of Savita Halappanavar’s death.
Galway Pro-Choice Twitter account is chronicling the last few days of Savita Halappanavar’s life in the lead up to the 5th anniversary of her death.
Halappanavar died in University Hospital, Galway on 28 October 2012 due to septicaemia following a miscarriage at the 17-week gestation mark.
Her husband stated that several times over a three-day period, his wife had asked that the pregnancy be terminated after spending days in severe pain.
She asked for a medical termination but was refused one because the foetal heartbeat was still present.
Halappanavar spent another two days “in agony” before the foetal heartbeat stopped.
Her case sparked the question of what is the Eighth Amendment and should we repeal it?
Starting the tweets on 21 October, the Twitter account will continue to post an account of the events in 2012 from now until the 28 October.
