Two DCU lads may have written the next Christmas Number One – Check out the very funny ‘Join The Gardaí’

All they want for Christmas is to 'Join The Gardaí'

JOE

Last week we brought you the very welcome news that, after a five-year break, the Gardaí are again looking for new boys and girls in blue.

It seems that some people, notably DCU students Kenneth Browne and buddy David Atkinson, were so moved by the news that they’ve written the excellent little ditty below, complete with pitch perfect images to accompany their lyrics for ‘Join The Gardaí.’

What do you mean “the lads only wrote it because they were procrastinating instead of handing in important college assignments?” Here at JOE we’re pretty sure that that had nothing to with the song’s composition at all. No sireebob…

And so the two lads set out, possibly in the hope of a Christmas Number One to coincide with Baby Jesus’ birthday, channelling their inner-Christy Moore and spitting out lines about reflector jackets and the (supposed) lack-of-direction-giving-abilities possessed by the Gardaí… that’s according to the two brave men anyway, not us Guard, we swear.

But what if the lads ever bumped into a Guard who may hear the song? Kenneth informs us, “I would hope he might have a good laugh and bring us into Coppers with his Gold Card :)”

And as for rounding off the whole thing with an excellent Simpsons reference – JOE approves.

Thanks to Kenneth & David (DCUtv Station Manager & DCUtv Deputy Manager) for sending in the clip and for the recent and very funny DCU v Trinity Anchorman homage which you can check out here.
