Very sad news.
Two healthcare workers in the south-east of the country who tested positive for Covid-19 have died.
Both were staff members at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny and are believed to have passed away on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
It’s understood the victims were a man and woman aged in their 40s and 50s.
A spokesperson for the Ireland East Hospital Group said they were deeply saddened by the deaths and extended their sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased.
The deaths of 38 people from Covid-19 were confirmed by the Department of Health on Wednesday evening taking the total number of deaths to 444.
There are now 12,547 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland to date with 2,872 of these cases associated with healthcare workers.
