The man remains in critical condition.

A 24-year-old Irishman is in critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two 19-year-olds have presented themselves at a police station in the city, following the incident on Concert Square at 2.20am.

The Irishman was found with a head injury in an alleyway between Fleet Street and Seel Street, with police revealing he had been involved in an altercation with two men.

Detective Inspector Matthew Kerr said it was “a nasty attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out.

“Having viewed CCTV from the area we would also urge three women who were in the vicinity of the alleyway at this time to also get in touch as we believe they will have information vital to our investigation.”
