Two of the Aran Islands left without electricity for the whole weekend

Carl Kinsella

We’d extend them our deepest sympathies but, unfortunately, they won’t actually be able to read them.

Two of the Aran Islands, Inis Oírr and Inis Meáin, will be without power until Monday according to the ESB. The problem has arisen due to a fault in an underground cable connection.

Electricity has been restored to Inis Mór as of Saturday evening, but a back-up generator will not reach the other two islands before the start of next week.

ESB posted these photos of their attempt to get the power supply back to the islands to Twitter earlier this afternoon.
