Three young people have died on Irish roads in recent days.
Two teenagers have died and is another is seriously injured after a crash involving a tractor and a car in Mayo.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal road traffic collision, which occurred on the N83 in Levallyroe shortly after 8pm yesterday (Friday, 27th September 2024).
Two occupants of the car, a male juvenile in his teens and an adult male in his teens were fatally injured.
A third occupant, a male juvenile in his teens, was transferred to Mayo University Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
The driver of the tractor, a man in his 50s, was conveyed to the same hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
“A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to support the families of the deceased,” a Garda spokesperson said in a statement.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the incident, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí,” the spokesperson added.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
This incident follows a separate crash in Wicklow in which a man in his 20s died and a young girl was hospitalised.
The fatal Wicklow collision involved two cars and occurred on the R753 between Ballinaclash and Aughrim at around 8.35am on Thursday (26 September)
The driver of one vehicle, the man aged in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was conveyed to St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin.
He later passed away as a result of his injuries.
A passenger in the other vehicle, the female child, was conveyed to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin as a precaution.
Gardaí are also appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
