Two weather warnings in place as Storm Diana moves towards Ireland

It’s going to be miserable.

Wind speeds faster than 100km/h are expected on Tuesday as Storm Diana heads towards Ireland.

Met Éireann issued a status yellow wind warning for 16 counties on Monday. The warning is in place for Munster, Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

There’s a status yellow rainfall warning in place for Munster, Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway and Mayo.

It warned of heavy rain at times with 20-30mm expected to fall over a short period, leading to some surface flooding with highest volumes on higher ground.

Storm Diana was named by the IPMA Portuguese weather service and is expected to hit Irish shores on Wednesday.

But winds are already strong as on Tuesday morning, with Dublin Port was forced to close to shipping.

Met Éireann said Tuesday morning will be very wet and blustery, with heavy downpours of rain, gales and severe gusts.

There’ll be a chance of some spot flooding locally. But brighter less windy weather with showers will extend up across the country gradually in the afternoon.

Wednesday will be a very windy day with strong to gale force and very blustery winds with heavy rain and showers.
