Unbelieva-bull! Rogue bull on the loose causes havoc in Mayo town

It might sound like a load of bullocks, but the town of Ballinrobe in Mayo was thrown into chaos earlier today when a rogue bull escaped from the mart and began wandering the streets.

Well, to say it caused chaos might be overstating it a little, but it certainly must have proved a startling sight for residents of the town of Ballinrobe earlier today when a Charolais bullock escaped from the mart on the edge of town and made its way onto Main Street.

Mayo centre back Donal Vaughan, whose family run a shoe shop in the town, posted evidence of the bull as it strutted its way down the town with little regard for passing motorists or pedestrians, or it seems, for the rules in general.

According to a quite brilliant account of events in The Mayo News, the bull then ran erratically the wrong way up a one-way street, although thankfully nobody who encountered it was injured and it was last seen (and probably herd) heading towards an area of town known as Cornmarket.

The report goes on to mention that one particularly unflappa-bull woman who met the bullock as she crossed the road is said to have ‘unblinkingly stood back to let him pass and then continued moo-ving on her way’.

This isn’t the first time that an escaped bull has caused havoc in the town, of course, as you may remember the case of Bruno the Bull, who went on something of a chaotic tour of Cummins’ Super Valu back in 2009, when again, thankfully (and somewhat miraculously in this case), there was nobody hurt.

Rumour has it the escapist bulls in the area have their eyes on the China Shop as their next target, but then that would be just predictable, wouldn’t it?
