Gardaí investigating alleged assault on under-9 GAA player at children’s sports event

It is alleged that a young boy was grabbed by the throat by an adult man.

Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating an incident of alleged assault at a children’s sports event that took place in Tipperary on Saturday (15 October).

Multiple outlets are reporting that the incident took place during an under-9s hurling blitz at Dr Morris Park in Thurles.

According to reports, it is alleged that a young boy was grabbed by the throat by an adult man.

In a statement issued to JOE, Gardaí said they were alerted shortly after 1pm on the Saturday following “an incident of alleged assault at a children’s sports event in Thurles”.

The Garda spokesperson stated that enquiries into the matter are ongoing.

They also said that, as the incident involves young people, An Garda Síochána will not be commenting further at this time.

JOE has reached out to the GAA’s Munster Council for comment.
