The worst is yet to come.

Met Éireann have issued two updates to the status red weather warning that came into effect for the entire country on Wednesday night.

An update to a status red snow-ice warning for all counties in Connacht, as well as Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal, issued at 1pm on Thursday, warned of sub-zero temperatures and scattered heavy snow showers that will lead to significant accumulations in some areas.

The warning will remain in place until 6am on Friday morning.

Met Éireann have also issued an update to the status red snow-ice weather warning for Munster and Leinster, with a forecast of “blizzard-like conditions” as sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow showers continue to affect the east and south of the country.

The update was issued shortly before 1pm on Thursday and will remain in effect until midday on Friday.
