A stretch of road that badly needs a motorway.
Today marked the official opening of the M17 motorway from Tuam to Gort which will hopefully ease the traffic in Claregalway and Clarinbridge.
Although the brand new piece of road means The Saw Doctors will now have to re-write some of the lyrics to one of their most famous songs, it could also see the production of another stretch of badly needed infrastructure.
Leo Varadkar put up a video on Fine Gael’s Twitter account and the leader of the political party expressed his delight for the new motorway and his intentions to make sure it didn’t stop in Galway…

In the video, the Taoiseach said:
“It’s (the M17/M18) part of a future Atlantic Corridor which is going to link the entire western seaboard so with this now in place we are going to have a motorway linking Galway to Clare and Clare onto Limerick and in due course we will link Limerick to Cork as well and that’s important because it means that all roads no longer lead to Dublin.”
According to The Independent, the present main road between Cork and Limerick is very dangerous in sections and therefore, a new motorway would need to be built directly to make travel between the two cities safer.
