New speed limits Dublin

“The principle objective of assessing the appropriate speed limits for our roads and streets is to ensure that the set speed limits are as safe and appropriate as possible for vulnerable road users, including children.”

Dublin City Council is set to expand its 30km/hr speed limit into further residential areas of the capital following the latest review.

The specific routes were chosen based on submissions from the last couple of years as presented by local elected representatives and members of the public.

Main roads are excluded unless located near public schools, where proposed periodic speed limits will apply.

Criteria taken into account include an engineered and designed layout, assessment against the accident database, speed survey information and direct consultation with An Garda Síochána.

“The principle objective of assessing the appropriate speed limits for our roads and streets is to ensure that the set speed limits are as safe and appropriate as possible for vulnerable road users, including children,” notes the official Dublin City Council statement.

DCC wishes to hear from members of the public with particular regard to the proposed speed limit extension, in addition to a pilot periodic speed limit on arterial routes.

Further details can be found here, while submissions can be made via consultation.dublincity.ie by 5pm on Tuesday 24 July.
