The private hospital has already been criticised for breaching strict protocols on the administration of vaccines.

Chief executive of the VHI John O’Dwyer received a Covid-19 vaccine at the Beacon Hospital, according to the Irish Daily Mail.

O’Dwyer, 63, is believed to have been treated for a serious illness at the private hospital but is now back in work.

The Irish Daily Mail also reports that at least one other senior manager with no clinical role at VHI was contacted by the Beacon and offered a Covid-19 jab at the start of March.

Last Friday, the Beacon came under fierce criticism for giving 20 “left-over” AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to teachers and staff from the private St Gerard’s Catholic School in Bray in Wicklow.

The children of Beacon CEO Michael Cullen attend the fee-paying school.

Cullen apologised for vaccinating the school staff, claiming the decision was made “under time pressure”.

HSE CEO Paul Reid called the incident “extremely annoying and frustrating,” while Taoiseach Micheál Martin said it was “unacceptable” and “repugnant”.

Over the weekend, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly suspended Covid-19 vaccinations at the Beacon because of the breaching of sequencing protocols.

The hospital has said an independent investigation will be carried out over the decision to vaccinate the school staff.
