Benedict Cumberbatch has recorded a message for refugees fleeing the civil war in Syria and seeking a better life in Europe.

The actor introduces a short poem titled “Home” by Warsan Shire ahead of a video called ‘Help is Coming,’ taken from the Crowded House song of the same name that plays over the footage.

Following the actor’s introduction, filmed at the Barbican Theatre in London, is the five-minute film, directed by Mat Whitecross; it features interviews with children fleeing from Syria along with footage of boats arriving in Europe.

An Irish campaign is currently raising funds in order to help refugees stranded in Calais – click here to help.
