Last night an incident led to Electric Theatre and Garden in Galway being closed because of the massive crowd trying to get in.
A number of years ago, both GMIT and NUIG cancelled their official Rag Week celebrations but that doesn’t stop students or venues organising events for themselves.
The first day of what some call an ‘Unofficial Rag Week’ has brought a scene that is eerily reminiscent of the recent crush outside Coppers a few weeks back. As you will see below in the video sent into us by Adam Finnan and posted on YouTube by a user called wEgas Ge, a surge of people in the large queue outside results in the barriers outside Electric Theatre and Garden falling over.
This leads to some people in the queue falling over but thankfully there are no reports of injuries.

We tried to contact the club to find out more information but we were told to call back to speak to management at 4.30 but we did manage to speak to the head of GMIT Student’s Union Sam O’Neill, who was keen to completely disassociate the college with incidents last night and with any activities associated with Rag Week considering that, as mentioned above, both GMIT and NUIG had cancelled official Rag week celebrations a number of years back.
