The Danish parliament made a NSFW cartoon depicting a violent, muscley ‘Voteman’, in order to spur an interest in voting among younger citizens. But it hasn’t gone down well with everyone… WARNING: Very NSFW content.

The 90-second clip features a man called ‘Voteman’ who first appears in bed with five naked women and, according to the video, it is Voteman’s duty is to make people vote or else he kills them. Now that’s sure to make the kids run down to the polls, right?

On Monday, Morgen Lykketoft, speaker of Folketinget, the Danish parliament, endorsed the video saying: “We are trying to inspire the very young to go out and vote. It is important we get a higher turnout, especially among the young. You have to use all sorts of methods.

“I think it’s rather innocent. You can find much worse.”

Eh??? Need we remind him of the following scene…

Anyway, less than 24 hours after the video was posted to the official Danish parliament YouTube page, it was taken down following a media frenzy.

A lot of people who saw the video said it was sexist and violent, which led Lykketoft to release the following statement: “Many whose opinions I deeply respect took the EU information cartoon as more serious and offensive than it was meant … I recognise that parliament as an institution shall be more circumspect about what we put our name to.”

Have a look for yourself and see if the video would make you want to vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections.
