A group of French lads on a night out managed to get their hands on a llama, and the rest, as they say, is history

In what may well be the most hipster thing that has ever happened, a group of French revellers on a night out in Bordeaux (where we assume they were taking in some of the region's finest wines) wandered into a circus which was closed for the evening, and took a llama named Serge on the city's tram system. According to The Independent, the teens said they were originally trying to take a zebra, but given that the beasts are notoriously stubborn (of course...didn't you know that?) they ended up settling on taking Serge, who was a bit more open to going on a wander with them. They took Serge to the tram for a bit of a ride, but the other passengers on board reported the incident to the ticket inspector, who proceeded to usher the animal off the train. We presume he didn't have his Lleap card on him at the time. The lads left the animal in the trusted hands of the inspector, and Serge was reunited with his owners at the circus, and even performed his usual show the next day despite his night on the tiles. According to reports on Twitter, the teens were, fittingly enough, arrested at the Place de Comèdie station after their exploits, but Serge Lama (a popular French singer, not Serge the Llama) has jumped to their defence. He notes that they were just having a laugh, the animal wasn't hurt and that this was a good story which "has helped break the ambience of moroseness [here in France].” The story has gone totally viral over there, with a Facebook page asking for them not to face charges having already garnered over 730,000 likes in just a few days. It seems that the owner has decided to drop the charges too, given that Serge was unharmed in the whole escapade. Here's a video of Serge after being returned to the circus (if you want to test your French out), and he will be given a bit of time off between now and the end of the year to relax and recover from his episode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiKWrfPUbO4 Hat-tip to The Independent, and Xavier Cappelaere on Twitter.
