Thankfully he got away in the end but good God that was close.

You’ll often hear it said that every second counts when it comes to life or death situations and never was that better illustrated than in a dramatic rescue of a construction worker from an apartment building that caught fire in downtown Houston in Texas yesterday.

The high-rise apartment complex, near the AIG campus in the city, caught fire – reportedly due to high winds – in Houston yesterday and one construction worker found himself stranded on a fourth floor balcony as the fire spread and became increasingly out of control.

The scary situation the construction worker found himself in was filmed in its entirety by an onlooker in a building on the AIG campus directly across from the apartment complex and it captured just how close he came to being engulfed in the flames before being rescued in the nick of time.

Immediately prior to escaping via a ladder on a fire truck, the construction worker was forced into dangerously dropping from a fourth floor balcony to one located directly below and just as he was safely on board the ladder, the roof began to cave in and the floor on which he had been standing began to collapse.

According to Associated Press, 200 fire crews had the blaze under control within a couple of hours, all construction workers working on the building had been accounted for and no injuries were reported.
