VIDEO: Footage of the shark in the canal in Dublin that caused confusion today

Jaws dropped around Portobello earlier.

If you were walking to work in Dublin this morning and passed the bridge at Portobello you may have spotted a bit of commotion around the banks of the canal.

We were sent this video by JOE reader Rebecca McNally with the subject line: “Shark spotted in Portobello Canal” and we thought “WTF?, surely not.”

Here’s the footage Rebecca sent on.

That’s pretty weird, right?

The ladies on the clip mention that the shark looked “distressed” and “frustrated” but it turns out it was neither because the whole thing was just a prank.

The fin moving around the water was a mechanic device and the prank was carried out by two guys and a girl who posted this poster on a lamp post near the canal.

The Kinsale Sharks are international awards for creativity and were held in Kinsale last weekend.

We contacted the organisers and they said they know nothing about what happened this morning. So bizarre.

Well done to the pranksters, we presume they’re ‘basking’ in the glory of their triumph right now.

Fin.

Cheers to Rebecca McNally for sending this our way.  If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to [email protected] or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter
