Video: Irish footballer appears on the Swedish version of Pop Idol…and he’s pretty decent too

Those of you out there who are familiar with Swedish football might already know Kevin Walker, but you might not know that he was on the Swedish Pop Idol recently

Kevin Walker is a Swedish born Irishman who plays as a professional footballer for GIF Sundsvall in Sweden, and is helping the team to push for promotion to the Allsvenskan (the country’s top flight) this season.

Despite that, he still has a bit of spare time to practice one of his other passions, which is clearly music, and in the video, he goes on Sweden’s version of Pop Idol and plays a pretty darn good version of Gavin McGraw’s ‘Soldier’. That’s not a song we’re overly familiar with, we must admit.

Walker’s father, Patrick, played for Bohemians in his day, but moved to Sweden to manage Örebro, which explains why Kevin, and his brother Robert, were both born there.

While the pair are eligible to represent the Irish national side, given Trapattoni’s record with players that enjoy a sing song on the aul guitar (just ask Andy Reid), we reckon Kevin might not be getting the call any time soon.

A big hat-tip to The Score for this one
