A news anchor from Raleigh, North Carolina, is in a spot of hot water this week after she announced to mid-afternoon viewers that the Santa of today is ‘made up’.
Talk about being a Scrooge the week before Christmas! Anna Laurel had just finished reporting on the story of a black high school student who wanted to dress up as Santa at his school when she turned to camera and said: "Hide your ears, but the Santa of today is made up”. Anna’s fellow WTVD Channel 11 anchor was quick to try and backtrack on her statement knowing full well that the comment would attract a lot of attention – which it did. The news channel was quick to make an apology on their Facebook page saying: “We obviously struck a raw nerve during our Santa story at 4 pm. We will be more mindful of our 4 pm audience in the future.” However, one disgruntled mother wrote: “I was shocked to hear it announced that Santa today is "made up". Thanks A LOT!! My 9 year old who has suspicions about Santa just heard THAT on the news! Unbelievable!!”Explore more on these topics:
