Video: Rally driver Daniel McKenna discusses the dangers of using your mobile phone while driving

That call can wait

JOE

“Your phone takes your attention away from the task at hand.”

That’s the message champion rally driver, Daniel McKenna, is trying to get across in this new video for the Road Safety Authority.

McKenna hopes The Cartell.ie International Rally of the Lakes is the only place we’ll see risky driving this weekend.

The first step to safe driving is full concentration and this means not using your mobile phone while on the road.

There are virtually no calls which are so urgent you should put other people’s lives at risk. That is exactly what you are doing, as you are four times more likely to be in a collision if you use your mobile while driving.

There’s also the penal risk, as you’ll be slapped with three penalty points and a €60 fine if the Garda catch you doing this.

It’s just not worth it. Pull in to check your mobile, or wait until you reach your destination. Just don’t put yourself and others at risk.
