Video: The launch of the Portuguese navy drone failed in spectacular and truly hilarious fashion

Something tells us they should have tested this a little more rigorously before unveiling it in front of the national media. Back to the drawing board Portugal.

Something tells us they should have tested this a little more rigorously before unveiling it in front of the national media. Back to the drawing board Portugal.

As technology becomes more and more sophisticated these days, the word drone seems to be popping up on an increasingly regular basis. Amazon, for example, recently revealed plans to use unmanned drones to deliver customer orders, while Facebook have been talking about using solar-powered drones to provide internet service to areas where there is little or no access of of late.

Following this trend, the Portuguese media, as well as Defence Minister Aguiar Branco, turned up in Alfeite earlier this week for the launch of a Portuguese naval drone that will, theoretically at least, provide greater surveillance of the country’s coastline.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, it didn’t quite go to plan (see video above); in fact, if you had no vested interest in it, the manner in which it went wrong was quite hilarious.

Oh well, better luck next time Portugal.
