Video: This promotional video for a local election candidate in Tipperary simply has to be seen and heard

We don’t know Martin Lonergan personally, but after listening to this promotional song for his election campaign, we’d have no qualms moving to Tipperary just so we could vote for him.

We don’t know Martin Lonergan personally, but after listening to this promotional song for his election campaign, we’d have no qualms moving to Tipperary just so we could vote for him.

Putting up election posters and kissing babies simply doesn’t cut the mustard when you’re fishing for vital local votes these days; instead election candidates have to pull out all the stops if they want voters on their side.

There are few things that stick in an impressionable voter’s mind like a catchy election song and Martin Lonergan, who is running as an Independent in Clonmel for a seat on Tipperary County Council, certainly has that.

Because Martin has decided against putting up election posters due to his support for the Tidy Towns initiative, he has to work harder than most to get his message across and, through hard-hitting lyrics slightly disguised in a catchy tune and an impossible to forget chorus, all set to a backdrop of Martin appearing at various local landmarks alongside Clonmel based Independent TD Mattie McGrath, he most assuredly gets it across here.

So repetitive is that message – to make sure you text your vote for Martin Lonergan and tell absolutely everyone about it – that it borders on subliminal messaging, but it made a lasting impression on us and it certainly went down on a storm on Martin’s Facebook page

One more time. “Vote Martin Lon-er-gan/running in the local election/vote Martin Lon-er-gan/when making your selection.”

Genius.

Hat-tip to Eoin O’Donoghue for the heads-up on this one
