VIDEO: Tipperary TD releases election song and video, it’s predictably cringeworthy

Alan Loughnane

We’d honestly thought we’d seen it all when it comes to election videos, but we were wrong, so very wrong…

So far we’ve had a knock-off of Back to the Future, and a very creative rendition of “Make the Diff” from Kerry.

Now, we have a song titled “Pizzagate”.

Mattie McGrath is running to be re-elected into the Dáil in Tipperary and faces stiff competition for his seat from the likes of Independent TD Michael Lowry and Labour’s Alan Kelly.

McGrath has only gone and released a truly awful/excellent election video set to the tune of Simon & Garfunkel’s song, The Boxer where he runs around all smiles with his constituents.

We admit it’s rather clever, with the course going something along the lines of “So vote McGrath-a, your Independent number one, Mattie McGrath-a, la, la, la-la, la-la-la Mattie McGrath”.

The most bizarre moment comes when McGrath dances with a pair of boxing gloves with his election opponent’s names on them.

We’re sure Fine Gael’s Tom Hayes and Labour’s Alan Kelly won’t be too thrilled about this.
