Red Bull Flugtag is coming to Dun Laoghaire on Sunday, 20 May, and it can’t come soon enough. This massive international event attracts contestants from all over who want to put their homemade flying machines to the test by jumping off a nine-metre ramp. It’s not for the faint-hearted.
Did you laugh at that video of the poor guy slipping on the ice back in 2010? Of course you did.
Now imagine watching him slip over and over again on a loop (or just watch the GIF above). That’s pretty much what you can expect if you go and watch Red Bull Flugtag.
You’ll be treated to a full day of flights, crashes, nosedives and hilarious designs. Luckily, the contestants are guaranteed a softer landing when they launch their flying machines off a nine-metre ramp into the water below. That can go one of two ways.
They can soar majestically through the air like oversized comedy eagles ducks.
Or this can happen. Owie!
It’s not just about watching the teams curse their inability to conquer aerodynamics as they plunge into the Dun Laoghaire sea. It’s also about seeing how inventive and creative they can be when coming up with their theme and performance. Flying high can only get you so far in the Red Bull Flugtag game.
Expect some spectacular entries on the day and for Dun Laoghaire to be gripped by Red Bull Flugtag fever over the weekend. Make sure that you keep Sunday, 20 May, free and make a day of it with a few mates.
