Warning issued to motorists as road temperatures plunge to below freezing in places

Drive safe

Conor Heneghan

Careful out there folks.

Motorists throughout Ireland have been warned to take extra care on the roads this morning, with fog and freezing road temperatures making conditions treacherous in some parts of the country.

AA Roadwatch have warned of frost on roads in most parts of the country, with road temperatures below freezing on the N2 Dublin Road in Monaghan and the N3 Dublin/Cavan Road at Kells.

Motorists are advised to give themselves plenty of extra time to get to their destination and to remember that gentle manoeuvres are the key to safe driving.

AA Roadwatch have also warned of fog in Portlaoise, Carlow Town and Navan and are advising motorists to use their fog lights when necessary and to turn them off when they are no longer needed as they can be dazzling for other road users.

Temperatures are set to reach highs of 8 to 11 degrees across the country later today, but persistent rain affecting all areas means it’s likely to be one very miserable Monday.
