Sub-zero temperatures set to hit Ireland all weekend and early next week

Hey, weather, do you need to talk?

Is there something on your mind?

Because you’re kind of all over the place lately.

During the day you’ve been tricking us into thinking they “Hey, maybe I don’t need that umbrella and second jumper?” as the temperatures get up to a practically tropical 13 degrees, only for you to change your mind and attempt to go all The Day After Tomorrow on us and freeze the city solid.

Met Eireann have issued this weekend’s weather forecast, and it does appear that things will become less tumultuous, but only because it looks like it will be getting cold and staying cold.

“A gradual drift towards colder conditions takes place as we head through the rest of this week” is how the forecast begins, before dropping the icy bombshell:

Friday – Those clear spells translating to colder temperatures with lows of minus 2 to plus 2 in the east and north, but less cold further south and west under cloudier skies with minimum temperatures of 3 to 5 degrees.

Saturday – Skies clearing countrywide on Saturday night in light easterly winds. Sub-zero temperatures expected quite widely leading to a widespread frost.

Sunday – Doesn’t look too bad, actually, don’t worry about it…

Monday & Tuesday – Very cold for the time of year with daytime temperatures in the low single figures inland, and around 5 or 6 degrees on coasts. There is an increased threat of wintry precipitation in the form of showers. Frosty nights with sub-zero temperatures will continue.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
