“You’re a fraud Nigel. Go back down the river.”
Voters in the UK will take to the polls next week to decide whether or not they want Britain to remain as part of the European Union.
Perhaps the most bizarre debate of the entire campaign occurred on the Thames in London on Wednesday, when Bob Geldof, standing on one boat, launched a broadside against UKIP leader Nigel Farage standing on another.
Farage joined a flotilla of trawlers campaigning for an exit from the European Union in protest at the Common Fisheries Policy.
That flotilla was intercepted by a series of vessels supporting the campaign to remain a part of the EU, with Geldof calling out Farage and claiming that he was “no fisherman’s friend”.
“You’re a fraud Nigel. Go back down the river because you’re up one without a canoe,” exclaimed Geldof.

Farage didn’t respond at the time but later told ITV News that he found the actions of those on the ‘In’ boat “disgusting”.
“Rich people laughing at poor people,” he added.
“They’re multi-millionaires happy to see this industry go to the wall on a big boat, effectively laughing at working communities being destroyed. Absolutely disgusting.”
