WATCH: Catherine Corless received a brilliant standing ovation on The Late Late Show

Alan Loughnane

Well-deserved…

Catherine Corless appeared on last night’s Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy to tell her story regarding the Tuam mother and baby home.

The local historian was instrumental in the uncovering of the substantial remains at the mother and baby home in Galway following her extensive research on the subject.

On the show, she spoke of how she had noticed children from the home when she was a child and how they would be sent away after their communion. She then researched the homes later in her life.

She outlined that mothers weren’t permitted to see their children in the homes, unless they were breastfeeding. They were made to perform tasks around the home and a year after the birth, they were eventually sent away.

Upon finding the death certificates for the babies, she was determined to find out where they were buried. Through her tireless efforts, she managed to find the death records of over 700 children at the home.

At the conclusion of her interview on the show, she received an impromptu standing ovation from The Late Late Show audience.

We can’t think of anyone more deserving…
