The incident has led to a serious discussion surrounding fan safety.

An incident occurred in a Major League Baseball game on Wednesday night, where Albert Almora Junior of the Chicago Cubs hit a hard line-drive foul into the stands, that ended up hitting and injuring a young girl.

According to CNN, the young girl was taken to hospital, where it is believed she was fully conscious as she was treated.

Almora was visibly upset by the result of the event, and it resulted in him breaking down and the game coming to a brief halt.

Speaking after the game, Almora said: “As soon as I hit it, the first person I locked eyes on was her… Obviously I didn’t want that to happen and intend for that to happen.

“God willing, I’ll be able to have a relationship with this little girl for the rest of my life. Prayers right now, and that’s all I really can control.”

Following the incident, a discussion has taken place regarding the safety of fans at Major League Baseball games, with a number of pundits urging those in charge to insist that the existing nets are extended so that no fan is at risk.
