These lads will take any chance that they can get…

You would think that of all the things in the world, Santa Claus would be the one that our elected officials don’t try to politicise. Jim Daly, TD for West Cork, proved us wrong this afternoon when he asked Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald about Santa’s permission to use Irish airspace this Christmas.

“As Chairman of the Children’s Committee, I’ve been contacted by numerous concerned parents and children who are very keen observers of the new politics in this house and the tendency of those in the Fianna Fáil party to water down government proposals.”

“On the proposal to grant a permit to allow Santa Claus travel in Irish airspace… Has the Fianna Fáil party agreed not to oppose he proposal, and if indeed they have agreed not to insist on watering it down which would result in partial delivery to the households throughout the country.”

Fitzgerald, thankfully, responded that there have been no objections to Santa Claus’ travel permits this Christmas.
