Weather forecast Ireland

Warm. Rain. Warm rain. The usual, really…

The weather lately has felt a little bit like that scene in The Simpsons where Homer buys the cursed Krusty the Clown doll.

It comes with a free frogurt, you know…

So yeah, the whole “That’s good!” and “That’s bad!” thing really feels like a handy way to sum up the classic Irish summer we’ve all been barely enjoying so far.

But hey, if you like a steady combination of humidity and rain, you’re in luck over the weekend and into next week.

Met Éireann’s latest national forecast outlines a “very warm” scenario – 26 degrees, potentially – in which heavy spells of rain will arrive from midweek on.

Today – Saturday 20 July – is going to be largely overcast and damp to start with, as lingering overnight rain clears eastwards.

This should give way to a dry enough day with a mix of sun and cloud, though look out for light showers in the west and midwest.

Met Éireann predicts top temperatures of 17 to 20 or 21 degrees. As for the nighttime, things should remain generally dry with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees.

Sunday, meanwhile, will bring top temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees along with blustery spells of heavy rain which will be “fairly widespread” in the afternoon and evening. Lovely.

Spot flooding is possible, particularly across the west and northwest. Overall, expect a humid enough time of it.

Into next week and things are going to get even heavier on the humidity front, with Monday set to be a very warm day with some breezes here and there.

It will be dry overall with long spells of summer sunshine and top temperatures of 20 to 26 degrees with the warmest areas found in the northern half of Ireland.

Tuesday looks like more of the same, but rain will make its presence felt by the evening.

Highest temperatures once again range between 20 and 26 degrees with best conditions anticipated across the north midlands, west and northwest.

As for Wednesday, outbreaks of rain are forecast but some eastern areas may avoid being hit altogether. A slight drop in temperature but still warm with 19 to 23 degrees expected.
