The weather forecast for St Patrick’s weekend confirms exactly what we’ve all been thinking

Looks like this weekend is set to be a cold, wet and windy one – with sleet and snow showers forecast for most of the country.

Those participating in parades or general merriment should be aware that evening temperatures are set to drop to as low as -4°C with the east seemingly set to be the worse affected.

According to Met Éireann, the country is set for a bit of a battering tomorrow, with low temperatures forecast all round.

“During tomorrow, Saturday temperatures will turn progressively colder and there will be scattered rain showers at first mainly in the eastern half of the country with the odd wintry flurry, but showers will turn to sleet and snow through the day but amounts will be small. There will be some sunny spells but afternoon temperatures will only be 1 or 2 degrees in the east and around 3 to 5 degrees further west. Easterly winds will be strong and gusty adding a significant wind chill.”

And the rest of the long weekend doesn’t look much better.

“Saturday night will continue with scattered wintry showers mainly in the north and east with fresh to strong and gusty northeast winds. Turning very cold with lowest temperatures falling to between -1 and -4 degrees with a widespread sharp frost,” the forecast continued.

“Remaining very cold on Sunday with scattered wintry showers becoming more widespread for a time before dying out later. Northeast to east winds will rain fresh to strong adding a wind chill to the afternoon temperatures of just 1 to 4 degrees.

“Sunday night will become mostly dry with just the odd wintry shower in the east and south. Easterly winds will be moderate to fresh and lowest temperatures will fall to around -1 to -4 degrees with a widespread frost.

“Monday will be mostly dry with just the odd wintry flurry. Easterly winds will gradually ease and top temperatures will be a degree or so higher. Monday night will be mostly dry with good clear spells and it is likely to be very cold with a severe frost as winds fall light.”

However, it does seem that with Tuesday comes a fresh start, with slightly higher temperatures and even sunshine forecast.

“Tuesday will be still mostly dry with some hazy sunshine and light winds. Top temperature will not be as cold as over the weekend and may reach 5 to 7 degrees.”
